MONEY TO BURN?

February 23, 2007 – Are you burning money by using an inefficient woodstove or insert? The time is right to upgrade your woodburning appliance to natural gas, propane, pellet stove or EPA certified woodstove.
Incentives are available from the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District and participating retailers for a limited time and on a first-come, first-served basis.

In an effort to reduce particulate matter (PM) emissions from woodsmoke, the air district is sponsoring an incentive program that offers a $200 rebate to anyone who resides in Yolo County or the northeast portion of Solano County when they replace a non-certified woodburning stove or insert.

“Woodstoves and inserts manufactured before 1992 have a higher emissions rate, producing 70 percent more smoke than newer appliances. Current products also produce less than 6 grams of particle pollution an hour which is a significant drop from the 40-60 grams produced by older appliances. “In addition, the heating efficiency has almost doubled which makes the newer units more economical,” according to Mat Ehrhardt, Yolo-Solano AQMD executive director.

Your Part
The district is working with the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association (HPBA) and local retailers to provide additional financial incentives to qualified applicants.  Complete details and application forms are available at www.ysaqmd.org or by calling the YSAQMD at (800) 287-3650 or (530) 757-3650.

The Yolo-Solano AQMD is a public health agency dedicated to protecting human health and property from the harmful effects of air pollution.
