Church of the Divide v. FBC & Freddie Oakley

Church of the Divide has continued their pursuit on the issue of the "Certificates of Inequility" by protesting in front of FBC in Davis.

You can watch their little protest on You Tube. They have Protest I and Protest II.

I am completely opposed to same-sex marriage for many reasons.

Here is the problem with this sort of protest. Let's just assume that everything they quote from the Bible is right.  That is a great debate to have within a church.  Within a church.

Doing it this way, on a major road in Davis with the media present, creates more problems for Christians in a community where people of faith are already challenged.

There are many ways to move forward wtih what you believe --- my opinion is that the kind of stuff you see on these video clips doesn't help the cause at all.

I would only say to this, Hate the sin, LOVE thy sinner. I saw a Yolo County Sheriffs Patrol Car at FBC on YU TUBE, video 1. Is this not in the City of Davis? Does Freddie Okley get private patrol escorts for protesters? LOL....to funny. I say to the Church of the Divide, take it up with County Clerk Recorder and do what any normal person would if they want change, VOTE them out! Of course, the Secretary fo State would have to send someone to do it, as she would have to recuse herself from any handling of the re-call.
Humint...aka Billy Bob.

Matt...I agree with you that they (this Church) is going about it the wrong way and their actions will only polarize the community...and not correct the problem. The problem, of course, is that Ms. Oakley has chosen to use her office to put forth her political beliefs...and that is improper conduct for a county clerk-recorder.

Unfortunately, she was just re-elected in 2006 (because she was unopposed)...however... You can bet that will change in 2010 if she does not retire to step-down first.

No where in her job description does it say hand out 'Certificates of Inequality' to anyone, or any couple, or any business or firm or 'cat or dogs' for that matter! It is simply inappropriate conduct for someone who holds an office of public trust (in trust I mean care and recording of documents and issuing of lawful documents). She has made a 'zoo' of her office and a sham of her elected responsibilities. (At least in my humble opinion) And the citizens of Yolo County should rightly be steamed about it!

Below I have pasted her job duties....'NO WHERE' does it say hand out Certificates of Inequality (That was a political stunt by Ms. Oakley)

Billy Bob: The church is just outside of Davis City Limits.

Charlie: You can challenge her all you want, but I'll tell you right now, you won't get within 70-30 of her.

DMG...You are making an assumption. I have no plans or desire to run for her position... But I will help others find a replacement. Perhaps I should tell you with it is like to try to vote absentee from a combat zone with Ms. Oakley's office...but I will leave that for later. Charlie-san

OMG, the religious factions are going at each other in the People's Republic of Davis....sounds like a civil war. I hope Freddie is proud of herself....she's a real piece of work. Maybe she'll get Al-Sadr's endorsement in the next election. She should get her Theological Degree and go on the road with a big tent.....she'll be a big hit in the Bible Belt.

Charlie: I did not mean you personally. You was meant to be a generic plural. People seem to forget how liberal Yolo County is, it is one of six counties that did not pass the same-sex marriage ban.

DMG....Your 'paint brush' is too wide. Let’s be honest about the matter. Yolo County, the great bulk of it, is not liberal. Davis is liberal!....Most areas north of road 27, west of I-5 and south of West Sacramento are moderate-conservative to very conservative. Davis is about 80% Democrat and liberal. It skews the county and elections to the ‘left’. Be that as-it-may....there are still lots of good citizens in Davis, liberal and conservative alike, that do not think conduct like Freddie Oakley’s antics are appropriate for her elected position. If given a choice of anther highly qualified candidate, if Ms. Oakley continues with her antics....Ms. Oakley could easily be defeated. (In my humble opinion) Charlie-san

Charlie--

You really need to become more acquainted with Yolo county politics. Perhaps you could visit from Japan sometime.

Yolovoter...I am acutely award of politics back home. From the School Boards, to the Sups, to the Assembly Reps to the Water Districts and flood control....In fact- I was home two weeks ago to attend the California GOP convention in Sac....and chatted with a host of some of our county's best leaders and representatives. And since you asked who I was and what my background was in a prior blog issue (which I responded to)...I don't see your point.

The issue here is the conduct of an elected trustee of public records and her behavior and how it is affecting our communities. If Ms. Oakley was a Sup or Assemblywoman…her conduct could almost be acceptable…But she was elected to a position of public trust to guard the public trust…not to make policy or legislation. I don’t like this church versa church fighting (it breaks my heart)…But it would have never happened had Ms. Oakley had kept to her elected duties. (Humbly) Charlie-san

As a Christian, Oakley's faith should go hand in hand with her actions. She should not publicly call herself an 'evangelical Christian' then openly support 'gay marriage'. God calls sodomy an abomination in the Bible; to encourage homosexuals to commit their sin is a horrific hypocrisy by a so-called Christian. This isn't a 'church vs. church fight'. The pastor abdicated his role to shepherd Freddie along the right path. So Church of the Divide addressed her public sin publicly--in the hopes that there would be repentance. That the nmae of Christ would be held in high regard, not reproached.
