I am not able to go on the walk this year. However, it is a great way to learn about the creek. Information is posted below. NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
The Yolo County Parks and Natural Resources Management Division and the Cache Creek Technical Advisory Committee will be conducting the June Cache Creek Technical Advisory Committee public meeting on the annual Creek Walk. The Creek Walk will begin on Monday June 4th, continue Tuesday June 5th, and end on Wednesday June 6, 2007. The Creek Walk will commence at 7:00 am each day meeting at the Yolo County Planning Department located at 292 West Beamer Street, Woodland CA.
The total distance of approximately 17 miles will tentatively be divided over three days as follows:
Monday, June 4, 2007 Capay Dam to Teichert’s Esparto Plant;
Tuesday, June 5, 2007 Teichert’s Esparto Plant to the Cache Creek Nature Preserve;
Wednesday, June 6, 2007 Cache Creek Nature Preserve to I-5
The inspection will include observation of the following conditions:
- Evidence of changes in channel dimensions or bank erosion;
- Evidence of bed degradation or aggradation;
- Significant changes in the location or size of bars and other channel features;
- Degree of channel armoring;
- Vegetation located within the center portion of the channel (within 100 feet of the low flow channel), including type, density, and size;
- Conditions at bridges and along levees and other major infrastructures;
- Potentially hazardous conditions involving public safety or property damage;
- General hydraulic condition of the channel based on qualitative comparison with previous years (restrictions due to vegetative growth, changes in bed form, etc.);
- General evaluation of channel and bank stability and vegetative growth at project sites and on a reach-by-reach basis;
Comments or questions on any aspect of these items is invited and should be addressed to:

PLEASE NOTE, In order to thoroughly document the changing conditions of Cache Creek, the Technical Advisory Committee will be conducting the annual inspection on foot. To facilitate the inspection of specific sites, walking over uneven terrain and through dense brush within the channel may be required. Therefore, participants should bring clothing appropriate for the terrain and weather conditions and personal items such as sun block, sunglasses, food, water, toiletries, and any other items appropriate for the natural elements and terrain. Participants should be aware that they could encounter rattlesnakes, bees, mountain lions, and other potentially hostile wildlife. Public restrooms will not be available. Participants will use private vehicles on public and/or unpaved private roads to begin and end the trip. Carpooling opportunities will be arranged and encouraged. |
