$90 million for early primary -- crazy

Here is an article on the potential of holding an early Presidential primary. This is really an opportunity for a select few Legislators that face term limits to extend their stay in Sacramento.
Here is how it would work --
February Presidential Primary + ballot measure to extend term limits ($90 million cost)
If the ballot measure passes all termed-out incumbants then are able to file for the June primary
June Primary
November General
I'm not interested in spending almost $3 for each person in California in order to allow a few dozen legislators extend their careers. If they want to move up the primary -- great. Then do them all in February and save the $90 million. |

To me this is all a bunch of nonsense! We need to move the entire primary back to June (like it was historically) and not be worried about the early presidential stuff. I am more concerned about fixing our state and local government and, in my mind, these early primaries are 'too early' for the voters to clearly know the candidates before the election. I like the 'Winner Take All June Primary' we use to have. With the old system, California could make a huge difference when there was no clear cut front runner in the primaries...and if there is a ‘clear-cut front runner in the delegate count’...We spend out time worrying about our schools, rivers, cities, etc...and fix things here in California. February is way to early….Politics should never have to compete with ‘Santa’ and the campaign for the February primary election will start in November. And!!! Overturning the State term limits will fix nothing!!! (As Always, In My Humble Opinion) Charlie-san
